How website maintenance works

From onboarding to monthly peace of mind.

Onboarding and access

I collect logins, hosting details, and a list of known issues. Within 48 hours, monitoring and backups are active and your site is under professional care.

Full site audit

I check everything: outdated software, security vulnerabilities, broken links, page speed, mobile issues, and backup status. You get a report showing what needs attention.

Maintenance schedule

Updates, backups, and security patches happen on a set schedule so nothing falls through the cracks. Content change requests are handled within 1-2 business days.

Ongoing monitoring

Uptime monitoring catches problems within minutes. Speed and performance are checked monthly. If something breaks, I know before you do and fix it immediately.

Monthly reporting

A clear report showing everything I did, site health metrics, uptime stats, and any recommendations. No mystery about what your monthly fee covers.

Who you're hiring

Why should you trust me?

Google did.

I didn't learn SEO from a blog. I worked with Google directly. They featured me on their Google Activate program all over Europe. If Google trusted me to represent them, you can trust me to rank you on them.

Before you hire anyone

How to tell if a web designer will waste your money

Google scores every website on speed, mobile experience, and code quality. It's public. The tool is called PageSpeed Insights, and you can run it on any website in 10 seconds. Here's a free trick: run it on your web designer's own site. That site is their best work. They've had unlimited time and zero client constraints. If their own website scores poorly, yours will be worse. Also:

No results, just "pretty"

Ask them: "How many leads did your last client's website generate?" If they can't answer, they build decorations, not businesses.

They don't ask about your customers

A designer who jumps straight to colors and fonts without asking who your customers are is building a portfolio piece, not a business tool.

They own your website, not you

If you can't take your site and leave whenever you want, you're renting, not buying. Ask who owns the code, the domain, and the hosting account.

They don't mention SEO at all

A website nobody can find is an expensive business card. If your designer never brings up page titles, heading structure, or how people will actually find you on Google, you'll end up paying someone else to fix all of it six months from now.

Their own site loads slowly

Run their site through Google PageSpeed Insights. Takes 10 seconds. If their own site scores below 80, that's the best they can do. Your site will score the same or worse.

They charge per page

Per-page pricing means every new piece of content costs you more. Good designers price by project scope. You should be able to add a page when your business needs it, not when your budget allows it.

No timeline, no milestones

"It'll be done when it's done" is not a project plan. If they can't tell you what happens week by week, with clear checkpoints, your project will drag for months. Ask for the timeline before you sign anything.

They show you a template and call it custom

Ask them straight: "Is this a theme or built from scratch?" If they hesitate, it's a theme. You won't notice the difference until you need something the template wasn't built for. Then you're stuck.

Problems I solve every day

Sound familiar?

“My developer disappeared and now nobody is updating my site”

This is the most common thing I hear from businesses looking for maintenance. You built a website, the person who built it moved on, and now updates, backups, and security patches are not happening. Here's how I fix that:

  • Take over all maintenance within 48 hours: updates, backups, monitoring, and security
  • Run a full audit to catch everything that has been neglected
  • Set up a monthly schedule so nothing falls through the cracks again
  • Give you a single point of contact who actually responds when you need something

“I'm afraid to update plugins because last time it broke everything”

That fear is completely rational. A bad update on a live site can take your business offline. The solution is simple: never update on live. Here's how I handle it:

  • Test every update on a staging copy of your site before touching the live version
  • Keep daily backups so any issue can be rolled back in minutes
  • Monitor your site after each update to catch problems immediately
  • Handle compatibility issues before they become emergencies

“My site feels slower every month and I have no idea why”

Sites slow down gradually as content, images, and plugins accumulate. By the time you notice, it has already been costing you customers. Here's how I prevent that:

  • Run monthly speed checks and fix any regressions immediately
  • Optimize new images and content as they are added
  • Remove unused plugins and scripts that are quietly dragging performance down
  • Provide a monthly report showing load times and what I did to keep them fast

Your site, your rules

I build on whatever platform makes sense for your business

WordPress, Shopify, custom JavaScript, headless CMS, static sites: the right choice depends on what your business actually needs, not what your developer prefers to build.

Need an online store? Shopify or WooCommerce. Content-heavy site that needs to rank? WordPress or Astro. Complex web app? React or Next.js. I'll recommend the platform that fits your budget, your team's comfort level, and your growth plans.

You should never feel locked into a platform because your developer only knows one.

Website Maintenance That Keeps You Running

I monitor, update, and protect your site every month so you never have to think about it.

Monitor your uptime

You know the moment something breaks

Your site is checked every 5 minutes. If it goes down, I get an alert and start fixing it before your customers notice.

Run every update

Your software is never outdated or vulnerable

CMS updates, plugin updates, dependency patches. I test each one on staging first so nothing breaks when it goes live.

Back up everything daily

Your entire site can be restored in minutes

Daily automated backups stored off-site. If anything goes wrong, I roll back to the last clean version. No data lost.

Check your speed monthly

Your site stays fast as content grows

New content, images, and features can slow things down over time. I catch and fix performance regressions before they affect your visitors.

Patch security holes

Your site is hardened against attacks

Security patches applied as soon as they are released. Login hardening, file permissions, and headers reviewed regularly.

Send you a monthly report

You see exactly what your monthly fee covers

Best When

You need someone watching your website so you can focus on your business

Software updates pile up, security patches go uninstalled, backups are outdated, and your site quietly slows down. One missed update can break functionality or expose you to hackers. This plan prevents all of that.

  • Monthly CMS and plugin updates
  • Daily automated backups
  • 24/7 uptime monitoring
  • Monthly speed and performance check
  • Security patches and hardening
  • Minor content updates (text, images, posts)
  • Monthly health report

Common questions

Maintenance FAQs

Quick answers to help you decide.

Monthly updates (CMS, plugins, dependencies), daily backups, uptime monitoring, speed optimization, security patches, and content changes. You get a monthly report showing everything I did, plus site health metrics. Think of it as a retainer for keeping your website in top shape.

Plans start at $150/mo. That covers the essentials: updates, backups, monitoring, and minor content changes. If you need more extensive work like new pages, design changes, or feature additions, I scope those separately and give you a price before starting.

Especially if your site is brand new. Software updates, security patches, and performance tuning start immediately. A new site without maintenance is like a new car without oil changes. It runs great for a while, then problems stack up.

Uptime monitoring catches it within minutes. I get an alert, diagnose the issue, and restore from the most recent backup if needed. Most downtime is resolved within an hour. Without monitoring, sites can be down for days before anyone notices.

Yes. Month-to-month, cancel with 30 days notice. No contracts, no cancellation fees. You stay because your site runs smoothly, not because you are locked in.

The maintenance plan includes minor content updates each month: text changes, image swaps, new blog posts, contact info updates. If a request is bigger (like a new page or feature), I will tell you upfront and quote it separately.
